My work joined this thing called Global Corporate Challenge ® this year. Basically, it is a way for people to get more exercise by peer pressuring teaming up and walking together with their coworkers. It started on May 19 and ended September 6. For me, the peer pressure worked for the first month, then I guess my work got sorta busy and I fell behind *excuses*.
Anyway, even after the GCC ended, I continued on keeping track of my steps each day. Since I didn’t have any more place to log the steps, I started to write down the steps each day on my calendar white board.
First month, I have nowhere else but my blog page to manually type in the steps. When October ended, I wanted to have a better way to keep track of my steps, and after searching Google on “logging step counts,” I found Jasse Peterson‘s blog describing how he created his step count log system.
I was copying almost everything, and added some more stuff.
Since I biked some on September, and started to swim in October, I wanted to add those calculations in. On GCC’s website, it says:
1km/.6miles walking=1563 steps = 4km/2.5miles cycling
1km/.6miles swimming = 4,750 steps
so, I added
G2=D2*4.75 (where G2 is “Swim Steps,” D2 is “Swim Distance” in meters)
and
H2=E2*625.2 (where H2 is “Bike Steps,” E2 is “Bike Distance” in miles.)
Anyway, over all, I’m happy how this turned out. Now I don’t need to write down the steps on the whiteboard. I just need to bring up the form page on my iPhone, and do an easy step entry. I also created the spiffy chart so that it’ll be easier to see ups and downs.
I joined a new gym at the end of October, so that’s how I started to swim, and do other kind of exercise. I am doing this with my friends, and basically the motivation (peer pressure) is the same, but I am enjoying it much more, probably because I get to do variety of stuff (swim, yoga, zumba, stretch, etc).
I’m hoping I can continue this for a long time ^_^
