Something Nice

These are the rings that hubby gave me when we first start dated. I think it was our first Valentine?

I was taking a picture of them since I thought hubby lost his ring looong time ago; but actually he found it somewhere at his home-home. It’s pretty amazing that he found it, since his room is … pretty messy x_X;

Since he doesn’t wear his, I wear his in my middle finger now. It’s a little bit loose though; I hope I won’t lose it.

The shot was taken with a point and shoot camera; but I like how it focused well and blurred the background. :D

Curry House @ Cupertino

We were talking where we should go for dinner, and while browsing Mixi for some candidates, I saw Curry House. I always wanted to check out Curry House ever since Chung^2 told me of its existence several years ago. I was happy when I heard about it from tAK when it first opened. Though… since my expectation was too high, the satisfaction was just okay. It’s not like their curry doesn’t taste good, but I was too accustomed to my own flavor. Now that I think about it, I rarely ordered curry when I ate out. It was funny that at the next table, they were talking if they can tell the difference between the curry served there, and the curry they made on their own. DDD: I think they taste a lot different. Next time when I go, I’ll probably try their Japanese style spaghetti. I hope that’ll taste better.

Curry House 01 We went to Curry House for dinner today.
Curry House 02 The restaurant is part of House Foods, which is a famous Japanese curry roux maker.
Curry House 03 They try to imitate (?) Japanese style as much as they can, so they even have display of their food.
Curry House 04 Their menu.
Curry House 05 I ordered iced oolong tea. They also had iced green tea, which looked pretty good, but I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to fall asleep. I think they also have free refill.
Curry House corn soup I think every order comes with soup or salad. Hubby and I both got corn soup even though we could’ve ordered miso soup, too, but that’s just plain weird to have miso soup with curry… And I just went Sweet Tomato for lunch, so I would hate to eat salad for the dinner, too. Corn soup tasted pretty good. The potion was pretty big, too.
Curry House seafood gratin Hubby had seafood gratin. It was very cheese-y dish. Underneath the dish was curry pilaf. I guess it’s a lot different from curry style, since hubby was expecting to have the rice with white sauce type of thing. This was just … curry flavored pilaf, and much drier compare to HK ones.
Curry House katsu curry In order to… check out their curry flavor, I ordered something ordinary. Katsu curry = beef cutlet curry. Katsu was pretty good; it was freshly made. Though, I wasn’t too big fan of their curry. I ordered medium spiciness, but I didn’t taste any spiciness. Hubby and I both agreed that the curry I make is much better than this one +_+
Curry House restroom Omake: Curry House restroom. Good way to check out if the restaurant is clean or not :P But yeah, overall the restaurant was pretty clean and hubby was amazed with that o.o I read in Mixi that the restaurant reminded them of restaurants in Japan, but … not so much for me. I thought more of Hong Kong style bistro/cafe…

Menu Tasting @ Hotel Valencia

We did menu tasting back on March 19. Food was pretty good :) Some pictures…

menu_tasting_01 Baby Spinach with Poached Pears, Dried Cherries & Honey Vinaigrette.
menu_tasting_02 Heirloom Tomatoes and Napa Valley Mozzarella with Fresh Basil & Balsamic Reduction. We’ll be getting this, except that we’ll be replacing basil with spinach.
menu_tasting_03 Mixed Baby Greens with Sweet Tomatoes, Spiced Pecans, Gorgonzola & Balsamic Reduction.
menu_tasting_04 Butter Poached Lobster with Sweet Corn Risotto. :9
menu_tasting_05 Beef Carpaccio with Parmesan Toast. It wasn’t as good as how it looks. Probably part because I liked the Lobster too much.
menu_tasting_06 Grilled Norwegian Salmon and Shrimp Served with Red Potatoes and Sauce Vert. Very general imo, but I guess that’s good for many people?
menu_tasting_07 Macademia Nut Crusted Halibut Served with Chef’s Choice of Roasted Rosemary Potatoes or Purple Peruvian Potatoes and Chef’s Selection of Vegetable. I actually liked this one better, except that fish was dry o__o Other than that, don’t you think it’s something you can’t eat elsewhere?
menu_tasting_07 Maine Lobster Tail Sauteed with Butter and Fresh Herbs Finished under the Broiler and Served In a Natural Shell with Chef’s Selection of Accompaniments (Saffron Rice Optional). Since we’ll be having lobster in the second course, we won’t be getting this.
menu_tasting_08 Filet Mignon with Cognac-Peppercorn Sauce, Served with Mascarpone Mashed Potatoes and Chef’s Selection of Vegetables.
menu_tasting_09 Look how it’s raw @_@
menu_tasting_10 Trio of Miniature Petit Fours
menu_tasting_11 Trio of Miniature Fruit Tarlettes. Those sweets were too sweet +_+

Assembling Wedding Invitations

Meesh did a great job on designing our wedding invitation ♥, and now we started to assemble them. At first I was going to cut the papers myself, but I figured they won’t be 5×5 exact, so I gave up after 25 invitation card or so. I brought them to a local printing store to cut. Since our papers were curled, he said it’d take a while to cut. He had to cut little by little. I’m glad he cut for us though; he had to stay overtime for it.

invitation01 After the invitations were cut, this is how we received it.
invitation02 Spread out the invitations on the table.
invitation03 Since printed papers were so curled, we used hubby’s EE books to make it flat… Or at least we tried.
invitation04 Hubby and Dan were cutting the band to use it on the wedding invitation… I was wrapping the band onto the 5×5 cards.
invitation05 The invitations, ready to mail out! … Only that we don’t have envelopes yet… Also they’re still a little curled, so hubby’s books are working hard to push them down and make them flat.

I really love the design and how they turned out. I really love it so much that I want to use the same design for the website and ceremony program… Gotta work hard~!

Birthday

I’m not really good at being celebrated on my birthday, but I guess I had more opportunity this year. It started with Arthur’s happy birthday mail, then Ooshi took me out for lunch on Fri, hubby on Fri dinner and Sat dinner, had cake at Satura on Sunday, then Derek and tAK took me to lunch on Mon. :9 I also got many emails facebook wall writing, etc… Stupid me leaving birthday viewable to everyone on Facebook and Mixi, but … I still appreciate it :)

Since I like celebrating my birthday quietly, what I did was to spend more time with hubby. We went to Nami Nami on Fri dinner. I don’t consider this as birthday thing, but I’d better mention it cause it was expensive O:) Too bad food was just okay compare to its price :S We also had to wait for a long time (~45 minutes), so hubby ate a bun while waiting cause he was too hungry… resulting in him not being hungry.

Saturday dinner at Gochi was awesome though. It’s my new favorite restaurant – I like it more than Tanto. I think Gochi has more variety. One thing I didn’t like is probably that the place was too noisy. There were several group in the semi-private room, and people there were just so noisy. Understandable, but still.

bd08_shirauo 白魚のてんぷら = salangidae tempura. o__O The English name sounds like Indonesian or something… This was the only thing I took picture of from Nami Nami. The presentation was pretty.
Hubby’s most favorite dish for the night.
bd08_asari アサリの酒蒸し? = asari no sakamushi, manila clam in Japanese rice wine, I think. We didn’t taste much of wine…
bd08_satoimo 揚げだしサトイモ = age-dashi satoimo, deep fried taro in dashi soup. Deep fried tofu in dashi soup is more popular over all, but using taro was somewhat different and it was pretty good.
Hubby orders it whenever the restaurant have it – his first encounter with Ankimo was at Oyaji Restaurant, and it seems he still likes the one at Oyaji the best.
bd08_kaki 牡蠣 = kaki, oysters. This is strictly for hubby… I HATE oysters >_<;
bd08_nasu 揚げナス豆腐 = age nasu tofu, deep fried eggplant and tofu with miso sauce. :9 my most favorite. the miso sauce was greaaaaat.
bd08_jako ジャコご飯 = Japanese anchovy and rice in claypot. We loved the crispy part of the rice :9 We also ordered dashi soup, which was good, too.
This was the only thing we didn’t like for the night… It was a little sour, probably because of citrus sauce… Meh.
bd08_denpyo We ate a lot, and this was our bill.
I tried this because this was a new addition in Satura cake. A little too sweet for my taste.
bd08_satura2 I think it’s cappuccino… I liked mocha better .__. Hubby and I have been going to Satura more often now. I love their cake <3

Street Art

Wooster Collective.

I like the UFO one and Korean one.

March 18, 2008

On the way to dinner, I was looking at the sky and thought the pattern on the sky looked really great. The sun was about to set, and the clouds were forming towards sun, like a big arrow. Too bad I was driving, otherwise I would’ve taken the picture. This happens to me often; going down on 87 South is a pretty good photospot, but I’m always driving :(

Dinner was at this Taiwanese? restaurant in Milpitas Square called Five Bread Two Fish or something like that. It’s apparently a restaurant owned by Christian, but hubby didn’t realize it until it was pointed out by Arthur. Shame on him. It’s a fairy new restaurant (a year or two?); I remember it was a Chinese steak house before. Food was pretty good, too. The taste was pretty good. Definitely better than the steak house they had before DDD:

Wedding planning is going okay, I guess, even though I’m sure we’re really behind. I should’ve stopped by at the hair place right next to the restaurant, since I was thinking of it as one of my hair and make up candidate… I need to look into it soon. Michelle’s making our invitation, and I feel bad for it since her baby is due soon x_x;

According to the schedule, we should be done by now on:
- Deciding on cake
- Hotel V checklist
- Banquet menu tasting
- Buy paper and envelope
