Leaving Your Belongings in the Public

During my trip to Japan and Taiwan, I saw people leaving their belongings on the chairs/tables to take care of other stuff.

At the airport after the security check point, someone left their entire luggage AND wallet (or maybe it was a passport holder?!) AND his drink on the table and left for somewhere…

On another trip, I saw someone leaving his backpack outside of the bathroom and went to take care of his business.

My mom and I thought the backpack may contain some bomb or something… o.O;

In Japan when we went to eat at a buffet restaurant, we left our purses on the seat and went to get food, and I saw in Taiwan that people leave their belongings on a table in the food court to get food, so when their food is ready, they can start eating right away at the table. Taiwan case really surprised my friend and me, since the food court in Taiwan is horribly crowded. I didn’t know Taiwan is so safe…

After 10+ years of living here, I don’t feel comfortable leaving my belongings anywhere in the public. If I think about it, I don’t even like leaving my purse at the table when I go buffet with friends and/or coworkers. Even when someone is still eating at the table, I bring my stuff with me to get new dish.

How about you? Would you leave your belongings in the public, if it is at least somewhat safe place?

6:53am: Wow, woke up way too early…

9:43am: I love how my mom and I share the same taste in bags. I stole (:P) many of her bags whenever I saw them. I should bring back some of her bags next time so she won’t be bagless D:

12:37pm: Went to spa. Mmmmm feel so good! There were different kind of bath: original, bubble, jet, soda, electronic, fall, outside, etc. I liked the bubble bath the best. The bubbles are not as strong as jet bath.

6:13pm: I just realized that I haven’t been to Bookoff yet. What’s wrong with me?

9:21pm: Went to Bookoff. Today’s loot: 30 novels (all Higashino Keigo novels), about 10,000 yen ($100 usd).

9:40pm: Wha, parents received the. Christmas card just today x.x

7:04am: Oooooh, 2010! My first dream of the year was about the camera charger orz; I really hope I can find one somewhere. I looked up online and it says there are compatible ones from Ricoh and Fuji Film, so now I have a better chance of getting it. Please, oh please, please let me have it!

12:32pm: Going to the city. We have an all-you-can-ride transportation ticket for 600 yen for sat sun holiday. Going to watch One Piece for special price of 1000 yen (special price for 1st day of the month).

6:09pm: Yay, I was able to buy a charger at Bic Camera at Nagoya station. They didn’t have the Panasonic one (had to order), but Ricoh one is compatible. Too bad Ricoh one is quite expensive; almost double of Pana T_T Still, I am SO relieved now.

One Piece movie was pretty good, but it made me realize I am not an anime person once again. There were a lot of fighting scene, and I fell asleep in the midst of it x.x And if you are going to watch it, you should have some knowledge of One Piece to fully enjoy the movie. Also, I wanted to get vol zero today, but they didn’t have it today… I have to go back there after Jan 5th to get it :S They didn’t have any OP merchandises, either :( The theatre was located quite far from the Nagoya station – about 15 minutes walk. Maybe I’ll go watch another movie when I go pick it up.

At night, dad helped me with modifying my new camera – LX3. Originally, it came with a removable lens cap; much like DSLRs. After a few days of taking pictures, I realized that it is quite bothersome (especially I put the camera in a leather case), and I didn’t want to lose my cap, so I looked up the work-around and… I was going to do it by myself but my dad’s super awesome and good at crafting or any kind of DIY stuff, so I asked him to do it for me ^^;

7:30am: Had a dream about Hiro. More like his mom and her 4 new born puppies. They were so cute. Some of them were too small so I was a little worried. Friend’s dog also came by and he was able to sneak out of the room from underneath the sliding door lol. Hub had some kinda show to take care, but I was late because of the puppies, and he was a little angry. All these are Entirely effected by the movie Hachi I watched during the flight lol.

Sleep was good. I slept at 10 last night and woke up a little while ago when my mom peeked in the room, but didn’t want to wake up so I pretend to be still asleep. Comforter is really warm and I like it.

I need to go buy some stuff today: a camera charger, a laptop charger, and a warmer jacket. I curse myself for not bringing the camera charger. How could I forget??

8:03am: Time to wake up! So cold outside of comforter. Hrmm too bad parents’ house got no wireless. Maybe I should talk them into buying. Oh lemme check if I can freeload off someone >.>;

8:06am: Nope, all protected :(

11:32pm: Went to Uniqlo and got some winter jacket. Oh there is Banana Republic here too. They seem to have cuter cloth than the ones in the States. They didn’t let me take a pic inside :( Also found a store called Zoe, same name as my cousin’s little baby.

1:13pm: Tummy happy with Misonikomi. Too bad I forgot to take a picture of it. Speaking of picture, I went to nearby electronic store earlier; they didn’t sell the battery charger T_T Now eating mikan. Very sweet.

4:18pm: Yay, snowing!!

5:42pm: My dad is awesome! He fixed my netbook AC adapter for me. Woo hoo!

5:55pm: Woo! Forecast says we will have 5cm snow!

8:25pm: Kouhaku Utagassen’ing. I don’t know any song orz;

11:09pm: Mom just told me that she hasn’t gotten my Christmas card yet. Wth?

3:48pm: Taking short nap here and there but can’t really fall asleep =_=;

5:24pm: Gonna watch Zombieland. It was mentioned on one of the blogs I follow.

5:28pm: It’s pretty gross…

6:51pm: Done with Zombieland. 4 more hours to Tokyo. Passed the date line. Flying near Kamchatka. Hrm, time for another movie!

7:00pm: Mr. Bean’s Holiday.

7:07pm: Changed my mind. Gonna watch Team Batista no Eikou (The Glorious Team Batista).

9:14pm: Movie done. Just in time for filling out the documents and breakfast.

9:36pm: Watching Hachi (Hachikou Monogatari Remake) as I eat breakfast. Missing Hiro already. New should watch it; he likes Japanese dog. 1:15 til arriving NRT.

10:03pm: Awww <3

10:17pm: Boo, they cut off the movie :(

10:32pm: Finally getting sleepy. Guess I will be sleeping in the next flight.

11:18pm: 到着。足むくみまくりで痛い。誰かなんかの撮影してる。芸能人が来るのかな?

6:08pm: Nice, I get to sit in business class! Or maybe it’s economy plus? Not sure.

7:10pm: Mmm back massage is goood! I found out that this seat is JAL executive class. I think it’s basically the business class. Only 1.5 hour flight but still good! I think I’m gonna start saving the mile so I can fly with this next time.

7:27pm: Landing soon!

10:58pm: I can’t believe I’m in Japan! Soooo tired and I’m just gonna pass out tonight.

The guy sat next to me in NRT-NGO flight was a nisei (2nd generation Japanese) from Brazil. His dad is Japanese, his mom is Italian. He said he is a teacher in Brazil, and now coming Toyama, Japan for a year to work at 溶接 related job so he can teach the newest technology back in home. He first went to Japan when he was 16 and self taught Japanese. It was pretty good. He’s same age as me, a month younger, and he was surprised at it because He tought I am 18 years old orz; He was married for 10 years and have an 8 year old daughter. Even divorced, he still keeps good term with his ex-wife. Haha, so strange I talked to a random dude on the plane for this much. Also funny how he was so scared riding the plane despite the fact he travels between Japan and Brazil about twice a year. It takes about 28 hours of plane ride. I am glad I live at the closest shore of the States (except Hawaii).
